About DFC

Debra has worked extensivley within the college and private sector. A former college
Principal, Debra has worked for nearly 40 years in further and higher education,
including 18 years at senior management level. Debra is an experienced inspector with
over 20 years inspection experience and is a former QAA Reviewer for Education.

Debra has also been appointed to OFQUAL as a national external expert for Beauty
Therapy working directly with Awarding Bodies and providers. Following her decision to
retire from the college sector after 40 years Debra is now an independant education
consultant working with independent learning providers and colleges and continues
with inspection work.
Debra has written national qualification standards for Beauty Therapy in her former role as national lead verifier for BTEC/Edexcel, up to and including HNC/HNDs. She has also acted as an advisor for curriculum developments for a number of awarding bodies
including City & Guilds and some years ago was a member of the National Joint
Awarding Body Forum representing BTEC/Edexcel at HABIA. Debra has also worked
extensively on curriculum developments, supporting delivery models and quality
partnerships in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Athens and Cyprus.

During her time at Bradford College Debra led the development of the country’s first degree in Beauty Therapy, followed some years later with degrees in Media Make-up and Complementary Therapies. In 2017 Debra was instrumental in working with HEE (Higher Education England) to develop and take through to successful validation, the first Foundation degree in Cosmetic Aesthetics with special emphasis on anti-aging modalities and non surgical cosmetic interventions ie: Botox, fillers , laser et al.
Debra has also worked for over 32 years for Huddersfield University on the Cert Ed/
PGCE programmes.

Debra holds qualified teacher status, subject specialist qualifications and has a Masters
in Education. A published author of three definitive textbooks on Beauty Therapy
(Hodder Headline) who also has particular expertise in quality improvement strategies,
teaching, learning and assessment. Debra’s specialist qualifications are in
Hairdressing,Beauty Therapy and initial teacher education.
